Sunday Showcase
ACT's Education and Outreach Program is made possible by the generous support of

The Sunday Showcase Series provides an opportunity for innovation and experimentation in the performing arts. New material may be introduced here, in the form of one-acts, scenes, and improvisations. It is also a way that ACT's aligned organizations in the Education and Outreach Program can offer performances to the public.

An Evening in the Attic

The first Sunday Showcase of the season, which took place on August 14th and 21st, was "An Evening in the Attic," performed by the Anchorage Senior Activity Center's "Off Your Rocker" Drama Club and ASAC's Living History Writers Group (click here to view photos of "An Evening in the Attic"). The drama club performed a one-act play Early Frost by Douglas Parkhirst, and directed by ACT's Artistic Director Bob Pond. The Living History Writers Group, directed by Christy Everett, read from material they had written on the theme of the play. The play and readings were woven seamlessly together in such a way that the dinner theatre crowd of over 160 people left in high spirits.

This Sunday Showcase was the pioneering effort to introduce "senior theatre" to Anchorage; it was also multi-generational, as there were two young girls in the play, and the painting of the set was done by students of Anchorage's Theatre for Young People. The set was portable, and traveled back and forth between ACT's Studio Theatre, UAA's Wendy Williamson Auditorium for painting, and the Anchorage Senior Activity Center.

Request for Proposals

You are most warmly invited to talk with Bob Pond, ACT's Artistic Director, about your ideas for a Sunday Showcase. You might be a playwright, a budding director, or an actor with an idea. We are seeking proposals that will provide opportunities for innovation and experience that might not otherwise have dedicated time and space. Please contact us soon!
